College House Team and General College House Information

In support of the College's academic mission, the Office of Residential Life coordinates the hiring and training of students, faculty and other staff. House Fellows

Each House has at least one House Fellow (family) The House Fellows provide academic/intellectual leadership, and they offer immediate contact with Vassar's renowned teachers and scholars, linking the College Houses with various aspects of the College life and the Hudson Valley.

House Fellow Interns

These students paired with the House Fellows to serve as academic resources and inject the House with intellectual discourse (usually over food).

House Advisor

House Advisors, full-time residential life professionals who live in the Houses, are responsible for overseeing the operations of two Houses. They act as liaisons between the Office of Residential Life and the Houses, and serve as an ongoing resource to House Fellows, House Interns, Student Fellows, and House Officers in all areas. They provide valuable support for students and have particular responsibility for enhancing the programming activities in the Houses. House Advisors also perform a range of administrative duties in Houses: they monitor housing projects, act on a rotating basis as “Administrator on Call” to handle residence emergencies, and work to ensure the security and welfare of the students and Houses.

Student Advisors

Usually third year students, Student Advisors provide leadership for the Student Fellows in their house and aid in the selection, training and supervision of those fellow students. They also serve as a liaison between Student Fellows, House Advisors, House Fellows, and House Officers. They meet regularly with the administration to discuss any issues arising in their Houses.

Student Fellows

These students, usually second year students, are trained to provide peer counseling for new students. They are familiar with registration procedures and campus resources and are trained to deal with the social and academic problems frequently encountered by new students.

House Officers

Elected student officers who work closely with the House Advisor, House Fellows, and House Intern govern each house. The impact a government group may have in determining the atmosphere of its residence can be tremendous, depending on the dedication of the individual members. Also, being a member of a governance group can be a very educational experience.

House President

The presidents preside over and schedule House meetings. They also work with the other officers, House Advisor, and House Fellows to coordinate events and programs to benefit residents of the hall. They also work closely with the Student Advisor. The House President also represents the interests of the House on the VSA Council.

House Vice President

The vice presidents facilitate plans for social programs and events that the House sponsors, including study breaks, all-campus parties, and house dinners.

House Treasurer

The treasurers assist the other House Officers with planning for events and are responsible for the House budget.

House Secretary

The secretaries work with the House Advisor to assess damages that occur in the House and encourage students to work toward lowering the number of incidents of vandalism.

Junior Representative

The junior representatives serve as the voice of the third year students within the house. They assist with house programming events and represent the interests of third year students as well as serve as a member of their class council.

Sophomore Representative

The sophomore representatives serve as the voice of the second year students within the house. They assist with house programming events and represent the interests of second year students as well as serve as a member of their class council.

Freshmen Representative

The freshmen representatives serve as the voice of the first year students within the house. They assist with house programming events and represent the interests of first year students.
