Room Changes
The Office of Residential Life coordinates the room change process. Students experiencing roommate problems may contact their House Advisor for assistance with resolution. No room change is valid unless authorized by Residential Life.
Residents should pick up new keys and return old keys at the R.O.C. on the specified room change date. Picking up your keys early, or returning keys late can result in additional charges. Note that partially occupied rooms are not cleaned prior to a student moving in.
Room changes due to roommate conflict
- First, try to work out differences with your roommate before you consider a room change.
- Talk with your Student Fellow and/or House Advisor to decide if a compromise can be reached between you and your roommate(s).
- After discussions with all interested parties, and no compromise can be reached, you can apply to change rooms through your House Advisor.
Applying for a room change
- Room changes will be granted by the House Advisors beginning after the first two weeks of each semester.
- Please Note: If a vacancy occurs in a Town House, Terrace Apartment, or South Commons applications to fill the vacancy will be accepted immediately. Do not wait to submit your application.
Rooms with less than capacity
- During the academic year, both Fall and Spring terms, students may apply for a room change.
- If this leaves a resident in a double, triple, or quad occupancy room with less than capacity, the resident is required to find a roommate(s).
- The remaining roommate is given seven (7) days to find the roommate of his/her choice.
- If you wish to fill the vacancy by pulling a resident from multi-room accommodation (such as a suite or a two-room double), you must get prior approval from your House Advisor.
- If you need assistance in locating a roommate, please contact your House Advisor as soon as possible.
- If there are no roommates available, an in-house room exchange will take place.
- Residential Life reserves the ability to switch an upperclassman student living in a small single with a freshman living alone in a one-room double. These types of consolidations will only occur in the same hallway.
Please note
- The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to change the policies and process of room change and consolidation in order to meet housing needs and demands.
- If you have questions please contact your House Advisor.
