Additional Housing Options

Strong House

Strong is one of the most visible present ties to Vassar’s all-female tradition. As the first residence hall and quad house, Strong was built in 1893. The women who live in Strong enjoy the benefits of an all-female residence that offers single-sex bathrooms, privacy, and the many comforts of home. This house offers the coeducational experience by promoting the interaction of men and women through social and educational programming. Strong is closest to Raymond House and has the most singles of the Quad houses.

Ferry House

Ferry House is a cooperative housing environment operated and administered by the residents living within the community. The smooth operation of the house is dependent on the active participation and dedication of each resident to live in a cooperative environment. Every resident is responsible not only to him/herself, but also to those he/she lives with. Residents of the cooperative are required to pay a nominal board fee prior to the start of each academic semester for food supplies. This arrangement allows for personal growth somewhat different from what occurs in a more traditional residence hall living situation. Cooperative housing welcomes all students who wish to live cooperatively in an environment that is unique and supportive of individuality. Students may apply to be residents of the cooperative during but not prior to the first semester of their freshman year.

Town Houses, Terrace Apartments, and South Commons

Often referred to as THs, TAs, and SCs, these are apartment- style housing complexes. Students in the THs, TAs, and SCs are not on the meal plan, but cook their own meals in the apartment kitchen. This housing option, popular among seniors and juniors, is generally unavailable to sophomores and is not open to first-year students. Unlike the residence halls, THs, TAs, and SCs remain open over winter and spring breaks, allowing students who live there the option of staying on campus during breaks.
