Room Changes and Roommates
I am a freshman, and I live in a double. What happens if my roommate moves out?
During the academic year, both A and B terms, students may apply for a room change. If this leaves a resident in a double, triple, or quad occupancy room with less than capacity, the resident is required to find a roommate(s). The remaining roommate is given seven (7) days to find the roommate of his/her choice. If you need assistance in locating a roommate, please contact your House Advisor as soon as possible.
What if I can't find a roommate?
If you are unable to locate a roommate yourself, your House Advisor will check to see if there are students in other buildings in a similar situation. For example, one resident left in a freshman double in Josselyn House during A term could move into a vacancy in a triple occupancy freshman suite in Main House. These types of moves will only occur with your consent.
Even after working with my House Advisor, I still cannot find a roommate. Do I still need to move, or can I stay in my current room?
If there are no roommates available, an in-house room exchange will take place. In this case, an upperclassman student living in a small single will switch rooms with a freshman living alone in a one-room double. However, these types of consolidations will only occur in the same hallway.
For example, a senior living in a small, single occupancy room on the 2nd floor of Davison House will only be allowed to consolidate rooms if a freshman on the 2nd floor is left alone in a one-room double. The senior will not be permitted to switch with a freshman living on 4th floorÉ instead, an upperclassman also living on the 4th floor will move.
Please note:
- As vacancies occur, occupants are required to fill these vacancies. If you wish to fill the vacancy by pulling a resident from multi-room accommodation (such as a suite or a two-room double), you must get prior approval from your House Advisor.
- The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to change the policies and process of room change and consolidation in order to meet housing needs and demands.
